About The Role
Reporting into the Head of IT Portfolio & Planning the key responsibility of this role is to establish and run the Project Management practice at MO ensuring best practice and techniques are embedded across the Portfolio regardless of the methodology being used (Agile, Lean, Waterfall). Critical to this role is also the identification and resolution of issues and challenges within the PM practice and removing blockers in ways of working that prevent successful delivery. Coaching and developing the PMs at PM is key to this role. The PM Team Lead will work closely with the PMO Team Lead, the Agile Engineering Team Lead and Programme Managers. 

You will be responsible for:
 
Developing the PM Team
  • Providing direction and strategy of the PM competency and establishing and evolving the Project Management team into a Centre of Excellence at MO to support the successful delivery of the IT Portfolio & Roadmap
  • Developing and coaching a high performing team including line management, skills and experience development
  • Working across and understanding a broad range of programmes and projects identifying and resolve issues, commonalities, differences and challenges and developing creative solutions to these that can be implemented
  • Working with other Team Leaders, Managers and Programme Managers to identify best practice and ways of working that will benefit delivery
  • Establishing ways to implement or extend these to ensure consistency and transparency so that programmes and projects across the Portfolio are utilising the best techniques and methods and can meet Business needs
Grow skilled people 
  • Line Management of Project Managers building a group of motivated, knowledgeable and skilled group ensuring progression and talent retention
  • Providing coaching and advice on PM best practice and ensuring these are applied consistently across the Portfolio
  • Ensuring alignment of all Project Managers irrespective of reporting lines to common PM practices
  • Defining the roles profiles and on-going skills progression for Project Managers across the department
  • Establishing a strong PM network through efficient and effective communication including facilitating team events to share new techniques and formats that can be utilised
  • Recruitment of individuals with the correct skill sets and motivations

    • You enjoy and see the value in governance and in ensuring that processes are fit for purpose
    • You will enjoy challenging the status quo when you have identified efficiencies that can be made in, for example, the ways of working and governance
    • You will need to be able to manage a varied workload and set clear priorities
    • You will have an excellent understanding of and interest in Portfolio, Programme and Project Management, PM methodologies and emerging trends
    • You’ll be able to demonstrate delivering with autonomy 
    Mandatory
